First Steps

Things happen when Carol leaves me alone for too long… With her trip coming up, the opportunity for making some home improvements presents itself.

This probably isn’t the best year to be doing this (being extra poor and all) but it isn’t often that I get free reign over the place.

Yeah, the kids are still around, but they keep themselves occupied pretty well in the basement. So, I’m free to break things, make noise until the wee hours, not eat (I try to remember to feed the kids but sometimes dinner gets a bit late…) and try to get things put back together before anyone really notices too much.

The first steps begin at the front door... two layers of old vinyl plus the plywood subfloor were cut out and new hardwood nailed to the diagonal planks.

Camino de Casa 2 is the most ambitious of my projects so far. It includes completely gutting a half bath (and adding a shower to it by the time it is put back togetheer), gutting the kitchen, removing most of a wall between kitchen and dinning room (unfortunately, this wall has electric, HVAC, water lines, phone & thermostat in it; all will need to be moved), as well as remove the floor in hall, kitchen & dining room and replacing it with hardwood.

Which is where this journey starts; Menards had hardwood on sale… We’ll start with coming in the front door.
