While ripping out the walls and floor to prep for the shower, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with not knowing the best way to put the shower together. There is the old fashioned way of building the mud base, using the rubber pan liners, etc.
Then there are the newer methods with preformed, tile-ready pans and water proofing membranes.
I was going to go with the old, cheap way but really didn’t want to. It was a lot more involved plus once I added up the cost of parts, doing it the high-tech way wasn’t that much more and it will be a lot easier (and better built).
I found the Schluter shower kit and Amazon had the wall cubby for a good price. Plus, Amazon had one of the modern style Delta shower faucets for an unbelievably low price; retail of $370. I got it for $65. I’m thinking it was entered into their system incorrectly since the valve alone costs about $35 and even low end Delta trim kits cost $100+ (and this isn’t one of their low-end trims).
